Native to North America, Talinum okanoganense grows here in western Canada in British Columbia and in the northwestern United States, especially in Washington State. It is a member of the Portulacaceae family. The fleshy, grey-green, elongated, cylindrical leaves are 5-12 mm long. The succulent grows semi-evergreen and forms fine carpets over time. It flowers in summer with delicate white flowers with yellow stamens. The flowers fade quite quickly.
It is a hardy succulent that would be suitable for the rock garden, portable containers or other places where we would like it. If grown in a pot, it is desirable to repot the plant regularly. Stony and well-drained soil is ideal for growing. In a rock garden, water only during prolonged dry periods. The leaves fall off during the winter and grow back in the spring. It will survive the Czech winter outdoors, but must not be watered during this period. A sheltered habitat over winter is suitable.
