TIP for you:

This plant impresses with its beautiful dolphin-shaped leaves. It is also known as the String of Dolphins.

Senecio Hippogriff, also known as String of Dolphins, is a succulent plant with leaves that strikingly resemble small dolphins jumping out of the waves. This succulent actually has many names. It is often called Curio peregrinus, Senecio peregrinus or Dendrophorbium peregrinum. Synonyms are also Curio x peregrinus, Kleinia peregrina and Senecio x peregrinus. Hippogriff derives its epithet from the mythical animal. It is a mythical cross between a horse and an eagle. The botanist Gordon Rowley thought that this plant was a cross between Senecio articulatus and Senecio rowleyanus.

Leaf colour ranges from blue to greenish grey. The leaves have a leathery surface and grow to a height of 15 cm. As the dolphin-shaped leaves grow, they become more and more similar, creating an impressive potted plant.

Small white flowers appear in autumn, forming brush-like blooms with a halo of deep red to golden yellow filaments.

Senecio Hippogriff can be grown as an overhanging plant. It should be watered adequately in winter to prevent the leaves from drying out, which would spoil the aesthetic impression. Its attractive appearance with dolphin-shaped leaves has made this plant quite popular.
