Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.

Senecio likes room temperatures, but at least 10 °C. The plant is not hardy.

TIP for you:

Many people like to be "in cotton wool". Senecio haworthii practically grows in it. The white hairs on its leaves are similar to cotton wool.

Senecio haworthii, also known as Woolly Senecio, is a fascinating succulent with white hairs that can tolerate poor lighting. To name a few, it is also called Kleinia tomentosa or Senecio vestitus and has recently been renamed Caputia tomentosa.

This plant is characterised by its beautifully white leaves as if covered with snow-white cotton wool, which is made up of fine white hairs. These are so dense that the body of the plant is practically invisible. The leaves are fleshy and up to 5 cm long. The lowermost ones regularly dry out from the inside, but the hairs remain in place even after drying. It is advisable to remove the dried leaves. Branching is not very frequent, and the plant grows slowly on upright stems that can reach up to 20 cm in length. In the wild, Senecio haworthii can be found as an evergreen shrub about half a metre tall.

The flowers are rarely seen, but when found, the tiny florets are a beautiful yellow colour.

It is important not to fertilise the plant when growing it, as it can lose its characteristic white surface and become lanky and unhealthily green. This plant can stand out amongst green succulents, especially when planted in a common pot.
