It can tolerate temperatures down to -1.1 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.

Did you know?

In the wild, it can grow up to 2.5 m tall. In our conditions, however, it grows smaller and takes the form of a typical garden shrub.

Senecio anteuphorbium, also known as Swizzle Sticks - a wooden alcohol stick, is native to North and Northeast Africa. Here it grows from Morocco to the Arabian Peninsula. Professionally it is named Kleinia anteuphorbium.

It forms succulent shrubs with branched, often heavily branched stems. The stems and leaves turn light grey-green with darker longitudinal stripes. The small leaves, up to 1,2 cm in diameter, grow pinched along the stem, especially near the tips of the branches. During the summer period, when the plant goes partially dormant, the leaves fall off.

In autumn and during winter, disc-shaped flowers in racemose inflorescences appear at the ends of the branches. These are white flowers with yellow scars and anthers, which grow in clusters.

Fertilisation is not necessary, but moderate and infrequent fertilisation will not harm the succulent. There is also a cristate form of this plant, which can also be found in our e-shop. The relatively hardy Senecio anteuphorbium is an ideal option for lovers of bizarre plants and will surprise you with its tiny leaves.
