Did you know?

It is very similar to Sedum acre. However, it has shorter and more densely clustered leaves. It also differs in flavour, tasting mild and less bitter. This is why it has earned the nickname Tasteless Stonecrop.

Sedum sexangulare has been nicknamed Chain Stonecrop and Tasteless Stonecrop. The epithet sexangulare refers to the petals growing in 6 rows. It is native to Europe and southwest Asia. It has been cultivated as an ornamental plant and has spread from gardens to the wild in the USA and Canada.

The bright green leaves are thick and grow in 6 spiral rows. They have a thick cylindrical shape and grow to about 0.5 cm. During autumn and winter they turn a more bronze shade. They normally grow to 10 cm and form dense mats.

Bright yellow flowers bloom in clusters just above the leaves during the summer. They are usually small, star-shaped and have 5 petals.

An undemanding rock garden plant, it is well suited to ground cover. These plants are hardy, requiring only minimal attention and care. They are suitable for the rock garden or in portable containers, and if given enough light and permeable soil, can handle living in very inhospitable conditions. Succulents should be repotted every once in a while to give them enough nutrients for their growth. Water only during prolonged droughts and usually do not water in winter.
