Likes sunny places and partial shade.

Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.

If the substrate is dry, it can cope with short periods of -6.7 °C. However, the plant is not hardy.

Did you know?

It is native to the Sierra Negra mountains, where it grows at altitudes of around 2500 m above sea level.

Sedum hernandezii, described only in 1990, is named in honour of the Mexican botanist Héctor Manuel Hernández Macias. It is native to the hilly slopes of the oak woodlands of the Sierra Negra mountains in Mexico at altitudes of around 2500 m above sea level.

This stonecrop has dull green leaves that hardly change colour throughout the year. The surface of the tough leaves gives the impression of being cracked and of considerable age. The same cracked epidermis is found, for example, in Sedum furfuraceum. The leaves grow densely on short and relatively thick stems, which are covered with brown hairs, giving the plant its characteristic appearance. Sedum hernandezii forms new branches quickly, but otherwise grows slowly and not very tall. It forms small shrubs around 15 cm tall.

Small yellow flowers bloom on the stems.

The plant can be propagated by planting individual leaves. Its hardiness makes it ideal for growing in windows or in homes with dry air and central heating.
