Did you know?

The stems of this cactus often grow in tight clusters. This distinguishes it from other members of its genus.

Rhipsalis mesembryanthemoides, called Clumpy Mistletoe Cactus, is native to the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. It is native to areas on both sides of the Baja de Guanabara, where it occurs at elevations up to 600 m above sea level.

It is an epiphytic cactus with thick stems covered with small twigs that form attractive clumps. Initially, the stems grow upright, but over time they become drooping, giving the plant an elegant overhanging appearance. The main stems are woody and cylindrical, reaching up to 50 cm in length and 2 cm in cumin thickness.

Charming white flowers appear on the areoles of the branches, reaching up to 8 mm in length and 5 mm in diameter. The flowering of Rhipsalis mesembryanthemoides is a stunning phenomenon that brings a fresh and optimistic atmosphere to the interior or garden.

This cactus grows slowly and can be fertilised if we feel it is appropriate. Rhipsalis mesembryanthemoides is an ideal choice for growing in hanging containers. Its overhanging stems unfurl beautifully to create an interesting overhang of greenery.
