Did you know?

This succulent can be recognised by its 3-sided stems. They are yellow-orange to green in colour.

Rhipsalis ewaldiana, also known as Mistletoe Cactus, is an epiphytic cactus with bright green stems. Epiphytic means that it grows in symbiosis on another plant (tree) but is not a parasite, it does not obtain its nutrition from the host plant.

Its branched stems are rather fleshy, 3-square and grow up to 60 cm long. In full sun, the stems sometimes turn yellow-orange!

New growths also turn a bright yellow-orange, then a deeper green as they age. Rhipsalis ewaldiana forms dense overhanging shrubs. The flowers are small, white and appear in spring and autumn.

This cactus can be fertilised with cactus and succulent fertiliser. When fertilised, it changes to a darker green shade. The plant grows upright at first, then later becomes prostrate. It is therefore suitable for hanging containers where it forms beautiful carpet-like overflows.
