Rhipsalis cassutha
The plant is ideal for semi-shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.
It can tolerate temperatures down to -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
This plant will perform best if placed in a hanging container. It produces beautiful green curtains.
Rhipsalis cassutha, known as Spaghetti Cactus, is a fascinating epiphytic cactus. This means that it grows on living plants, but gets its nutrition independently without parasitizing the host plant.
This cactus is characterised by its slender, light green stems, which tend to lie flat over time and form curtains when suspended. They may have bristly areoles when young, but are otherwise very smooth. Over time they branch and form dense clumps. The plant sometimes produces adventitious aerial roots. Small, white flowers appear from winter to spring.
Rhipsalis cassutha is an ideal choice for hanging containers as it stands out with its long, gracefully drooping stems and creates beautiful green drapes. This cactus likes partial or full shade, making it an excellent choice for indoor or shady garden environments.
Although close to succulents in appearance, it is a member of the cactus family. It is low-maintenance, and although it can be fertilized, it is not necessary. It is therefore a good choice even for novice growers.
