Portulaca grandiflora Red is an ornamental plant native to southern Africa. It is nicknamed the Grandifloral shrub, a name that refers to the plant's main feature, its huge, impressive flowers.
The small leaves are tiny and take on an intense red colour when exposed to the sun. The stems tend to be smooth and usually turn reddish-brown. It grows to a height of about 30 cm.
The main dominant feature of the plant is undoubtedly its flower. It is bright red in colour and grows to a disproportionately huge size. The centres of the flowers have a yellow colouring and the succulent literally lights up its surroundings when in flower.
Portulaca grandiflora Red is a relatively fast growing plant. The plant can be lightly fertilised. Over time, it is gaining more and more enthusiastic growers who are impressed by its huge and very handsome flowers.
