Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.

Ideally, the temperature should not fall below 15 °C. The plant is not hardy.

Did you know?

The plant has dark green translucent windows which are formed by the growth of the leaves. These grow seemingly curved upwards and towards each other. The window is found between them.

Peperomia dolabriformis, whose surname dolabriformis means axe-shaped and refers to the shape of the leaves, grows naturally in the South American Andes. However, it is native to the warm valleys of northern Peru and often grows there as an epiphyte or on rotten wood and leaves.

Peperomia has thick, fleshy, light green leaves with a characteristic boat-shaped or axe-shaped form. The leaves are folded half up and bunched along the dark green margins, creating a narrow dark green window. These leaves can be nearly 5 cm long, about 1 cm wide and up to 1.5 cm thick. The stems can become woody over time and in older plants the stems can reach a diameter of 2.5 cm. This shrubby succulent plant has an upright and lax branching habit. The total height can be over 30 cm.

The inconspicuous flowers are greenish-white in colour and appear on green, slender stems that can reach up to 40 cm in length. It usually flowers in autumn and winter.

Peperomia dolabriformis prefers consistently moist soil, but is sensitive to prolonged waterlogging. It is therefore important to maintain the correct level of humidity and avoid overwatering when caring for it. Due to its slow growth, it will not outgrow its neighbours. This makes it a good choice for succulent gardens or for planting with other succulent plants.
