Pachyveria Scheideckeri cristata
Place ideally in a sunny position.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
It can tolerate -1.1 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The plant initially forms miniature leaves with a red pattern, growing in dense clumps. Later, however, the leaves change size, shape and colour. The leaves are larger and have spikes.
Pachyveria Scheideckeri cristata is the result of a cross between Pachyphytum bracteosum and Echeveria secunda. It is a cristate form, sometimes has mutated growth with unusual leaf and stem shape.
The fleshy leaves turn red, light grey to blue-green. Leaf colour can vary depending on the season and growing conditions. The leaves are slightly leathery and the old lower leaves dry naturally. This forms a stem that shows fine scars from dead leaves. Young plants form densely ruffled and miniature leaves with a red pattern, which enlarge and change shape over time. The transitional form of the plant gives the impression that it has two faces: one in youth and another, very different one in old age.
The cristate form does not flower.
Pachyveria Scheideckeri cristata is an undemanding small succulent plant. It does not require fertilisation or any other specific treatment. The beautiful colour variation and the change in age make the plant a succulent gem that is constantly evolving.
