Pachyveria Clavifolia
The plant likes a sunny habitat.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
It can tolerate temperatures down to -6.7 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
If the plant is placed in full sun, the leaves have a beautiful red colour. It is therefore advisable to place the plant outside in a sunny position.
Pachyveria Clavifolia, also known as Jeweled Crown, is a fascinating hybrid created by crossing Pachyphytum bracteosum and Echeveria rosea. This hybrid was first described in 1874 by the French grower Jean-Baptiste A. Deleuil.
A fine waxy coating covers the fleshy grey-green leaves and stem. The leaves grow slightly curved, flat and have pointed ends which, together with the edges of the leaves, turn a pinkish hue. This colour is best when the plant is exposed to full sun. Overall, the leaves grow up to 4,5 cm long and 1,5 cm wide. Rosettes grow on stems up to 15 cm long and reach up to 6 cm in diameter.
In spring, showy, bell-shaped flowers with orange to red petals bloom. The individual flowers grow in dense clusters on upright stems up to 15 cm long.
The succulent does not require fertiliser and prefers plenty of sunlight. It is advisable to summer the plant. Place the plant outdoors in a sunny location in spring and move it indoors again for the winter. Pachyveria Clavifolia is a striking combination of pink and greenish-blue colours, complemented by a delicate whitish coating.
