Pachyphytum glutinicaule, a succulent plant native to Hidalgo, Mexico, where it grows on sunny rocky slopes at altitudes of about 1,500 m above sea level. The epithet 'glutinicaule' refers to the sticky stems of young plants.

The leaves of this plant are blue-green in colour, often with a hint of pink or purple, and have a waxy coating. They can grow up to 6,5 cm long, 3,5 cm wide and 1,5 cm thick. There is a small sharp point at the tip of the leaves. The succulent is characterised by its plump leaves, which initially grow in rosettes up to 12 cm across. The stems grow upright or droop downwards and grow up to 60 cm long and 1,5 cm in diameter. The young stems are somewhat sticky and shave with age due to drying and falling leaves. The rosettes are then found only in the upper part of the stem. The adult plant usually reaches a height of 15 - 20 cm.

During winter and spring, bell-shaped flowers with red petals appear. The flowers are arranged along the tops of the unbranched, pink-coloured stems and grow up to 50 cm long.

Pachyphytum glutinicaule is relatively easy to grow. To maintain a nice appearance and encourage growth, it is advisable to rejuvenate the plant from time to time by pruning. This unpretentious plant will not only delight the eye of the beginner, but will also complement other Pachyphytum with its distinctive details.
