The small purple shrubs contrast with the bright yellow flowers. The plant catches the eye from a distance and is an ideal choice for a houseplant.

Oxalis vulcanicola, is a charming succulent plant with dark purple leaves and bright yellow flowers. It is native to tropical Central and South America, from southern Mexico to northern Argentina, where it grows at altitudes between 1,200 and 3,400 metres above sea level. It can also be found under the names Oxalis spiralis subsp. vulcanicola Zinfandel or Oxalis spiralis.

Oxalis has dark purple leaves that grow alternately at the ends of the stems. The petioles are trifoliate and slightly fleshy. The stems of the plant are woody, grow erect or prostrate, and branch profusely. Oxalis vulcanicola shrubs grow up to 20 cm tall.

The bright yellow or yellow-orange flowers with reddish veins at the mouth contrast sharply with the dark purple leaves.

Oxalis vulcanicola is a perennial herb that requires regular watering. It is such a classic houseplant and we care for it accordingly as a houseplant. If we have the opportunity, we can fertilise it. We can pinch out the stems. The succulent impresses especially with its deep purple leaves and petioles, especially when in flower, and the yellow flowers enhance the beauty of this Oxalis.
