Othonna capensis Ruby Necklace
Ideally placed in a sunny location. The succulent will tolerate partial shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering. In general, water more than other succulents.
It can tolerate -6.7 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The tiny yellow flowers resemble a daisy in shape and stand out in stark contrast to the green or purple-pink leaves and red stem.
Othonna capensis Ruby Necklace, also known as Crassothonna capensis, is a colourful cultivar of Othonna capensis.
The leaves of this succulent, shaped like an elongated bean with a point, turn green (in shade) and purple (in sunlight) and stand out in stark contrast to the ruby red stems. These slender stems can grow up to 2 m long, but this will take a very long time.
In spring and summer, small yellow daisy-like flowers appear above the foliage, forming another contrasting element. Flowering lasts from mid-spring to autumn, but sometimes blooms all year round.
Othonna capensis Ruby Necklace has an overhanging habit and the long shoots can be cut back. It is a beautifully coloured plant with contrasting flowers that is suitable for hanging baskets or patios.
