Orostachys boehmeri variegata
Place in a sunny position.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, stop watering.
The plant is frost hardy, a sheltered area is ideal.
The fine variegation decorates the edges of the leaves of this rockery. It complements the greyish colour and creates a fine detail.
Orostachys boehmeri variegata is a variety of succulent that originated in Japan. It is nicknamed Chinese Dunce Cap.
The grey-green leaves can turn shades of lavender grey and form a spoon shape. The edges of the leaves reveal a cream-coloured banding and the leaves grow to 3.5 cm long and 1.5 cm wide. The individual leaves are folded into rosettes that reach up to 5 cm in diameter. The stems grow up to 6 cm long.
It produces white flowers with red anthers on dense inflorescences up to 15 cm long. After flowering, the rosette dies, but is quickly replaced by one of the offshoots.
Orostachys retract for the winter and lose their size. There is no need to worry, this is a natural process. Because of the resemblance, the plant is a bit more delicate, so I recommend hiding it on the porch for the winter. The succulent delights with its delicate and rare resemblance.
