TIP for you:

The stems are about 5 cm long, while the large flowers can grow up to 8 cm in diameter. The flowers literally become the dominant feature of the plant. This makes the succulent suitable for those looking for a plant with striking flowers.

Orbea variegata x Tavaresia barklyi is a hybrid plant created by crossing Orbea variegata and Tavaresia barklyi, which are called stinkbugs. It may also be referred to as Tavaorbea. Orbea variegata has been cultivated in the Czech Republic since the 19th century.

There are a large number of spiky growths on the surface of the stems. The stems branch profusely and darken over time to blackish-green shades. The plant is usually less than 10 centimetres tall, but branches all the more profusely.

The flowers grow disproportionately large and have an unusual colour. They are a combination of reddish brown and sandy yellow. The edges of the flowers tend to be covered with thick hairs, giving them a velvety feel. It blooms throughout the summer, most often in August and September, but the first flowers can appear as early as late June. The flowers themselves are about 5 cm across and when the petals are fully open, the diameter of the flower can exceed 8 cm.

Watering should be greatly reduced during the winter and planted out during the hottest days of the summer. Fertilise lightly with cactus and succulent fertiliser. Orbea variegata x Tavaresia barklyi impresses especially with its unusually large flowers, which literally add a new dimension to the plant and brighten up not only it but also your succulent collection in reddish-brown and sandy shades.
