Neoregelia Fireball
Place ideally in full sun or partial shade.
Water regularly, limit watering in winter.
Temperatures should never fall below 0 °C, the plant is not hardy.
The plant is very popular because of its fiery red colour, which strikes the eye from a distance and is not very typical among houseplants.
Neoregelia Fireball, with a name referring to the glowing flames (fireball), is a fascinating "bromeliad" that has won the hearts of growers around the world thanks to its charming red colour and easy care. It is named after Eduard August von Regel, director of the St. Petersburg Botanical Garden in Russia (1875-1892). This plant, whose native form grows in the wild on trees and rocks in South America, boasts an extensive arsenal of cultivars (more than 5,000 individual forms) of which Fireball is one.
Neoregelia Fireball is popular for its fiery red leaves. This colour is most intense in sunny locations, while in the shade the plant gradually turns a deep green and loses its charming brightness. The new side shoots of the plant gradually grow into interesting shapes, creating a dynamic appearance.
The flower is usually purple-blue in colour. The inflorescence is relatively short-lived and after flowering the rosette of the plant starts to die. However, this is a natural process and new daughter plants usually grow from the mother plant.
Neoregelia Fireball is an unpretentious plant that will please even novice growers. It prefers a bright habitat with plenty of sunlight, but can also tolerate partial shade. It also likes to be fertilised. I recommend watering the plant in the centre of the rosette so that water collects in the leaf funnel. Neoregelia Fireball can tolerate both drought and humidity and is ideal for growing in paludariums, humid terrariums and hanging containers. It is also an excellent choice among succulents in the greenhouse. The deep red colour will captivate observers and the plant will shine in virtually any environment.
