Did you know?

It is distinguished by the sunken centre of its rosettes. However, unusually, the flowers grow not from the centre but from the side of the rosette.

Monanthes pallens is also sometimes called Monanthes silensis. It is native to the Canary Islands, specifically to San Isidro on the island of Tenerife.

The dense rosettes of small, light green leaves consist of hundreds of individual leaves. They are usually glabrous or bear short glandular hairs, are obovate in shape and grow up to 1.8 cm long. The pale centres of the rosettes fall into a bowl shape and the overall rosette grows up to 4 cm in diameter and about 1,5 cm high. The fleshy stems tend to be short and become more and more caudiciform with age, growing to a diameter of up to 7 mm. The succulent likes to form lateral shoots.

The flowers tend to be small and appear in spring. Different from other Monanthes, the flowers grow from the side of the rosette, not from the centre. Their appearance is reminiscent of miniature suns, not least because of their yellowish colour.

Monanthes do not like fertilisation and do not like cold or excessive heat. Care should be taken to avoid sun burning the leaves. It is advisable to limit watering during the winter. This is an original miniature that impresses with the interesting details of its leaves arranged in an ornamental rosette. It is perfect for a desk or other prominent place with minimal space.
