Place ideally in a sunny location.

Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, we limit watering.

The plant can tolerate short-term temperatures down to -6.7 °C. However, it is not hardy.

TIP for you:

If you give the plant plenty of sunlight, the leaves will turn a beautiful deep purple.

Lenophyllum latum is native to Mexico, specifically to Nuevo León and Tamaulipas. Here it grows at altitudes between 500 - 1 800 m above sea level. The species name 'latum' means 'wide' or 'extensive'.

The green leaves often take on a beautiful purple-red hue. They reach up to 5 cm long and 3 cm wide. The succulent has upright stems that branch strongly from the base. Overall, the plant can grow up to 50 cm in height, but in our conditions it tends to grow smaller.

The bright flowers turn greenish-yellow. Occasionally, they appear red. They bloom in autumn and brighten the darker shades of the leaves.

The succulent needs to be given plenty of light to get the best colour from the dark purple leaves. The plant can be propagated quite easily by breaking off leaves. Overall, it is an unpretentious plant and Lenophyllum latum is a rather unusual succulent that is not very common in this country. It has dark leaves, the purple colour of which is complemented by bright flowers.
