The plant loves partial shade, but doesn't mind direct sun.

It is not demanding on watering, even once a week is sufficient and it has no problem if watering is not regular.

The temperature in which the plant is grown should not drop below 5 °C. The plant is not hardy.

Did you know?

Ledebouria socialis variegata is a similar form of a popular succulent plant. Apart from its attractive patterns and variegated leaves, it also produces a relatively common flower.

Belongs to the family Hyacinthaceae. In some sources it can also be found under the name Scilla violacea or Scilla socialis. Ledebouria socialis variegata presents a variegated form with white and pink elements on the leaves.

During growth it forms clusters of small bulbs (about 2 cm in diameter) in the shape of teardrops. The bulbs produce leaves and eventually flower stalks up to 20 cm high. The leaves are usually mottled on the upper side, while the underside is purple with a glossy surface. The leaf margins are edged with a distinctive white to pink banding.

The inflorescence may come out regularly, even several times in a single season. The delicate florets are inconspicuous and white in colour.

I recommend growing in tighter pots or trays and placing these in a sheltered spot where they can remain all year round. You can tell when it's time to water by the slight flaccidity of the leaves. The plant is very hardy and can tolerate poorer light or temperature conditions and longer periods without watering. Ledebouria socialis variegata is thus an ideal plant for beginners, but even advanced collectors will appreciate its patterns and whitish colouring. In addition, it is quite an unusual plant, which is not found in many people's homes.
