Can be great for planting in colourful succulent gardens or shared containers.
Kalanchoe sexangularis or also Six-angled Kalanchoe, Kalanchoe mocambicana, Kalanchoe mossambicana, Kalanchoe rogersii, Kalanchoe rubinea, Kalanchoe sexangularis var. intermedia, Kalanchoe vatrinii or otherwise known as succulent grows on rocky slopes in shadows and semi-shadows cast by shrubs and trees.
The green on the leaves is mixed with ruby red shades, into which it transitions smoothly and the colour of the plant changes throughout the year. The stiff and toothed leaves are shiny on the surface thanks to a waxy layer. The plant forms an upright or slowly semi-erect shrub that can reach a height of up to one metre in the wild. However, it will grow to a much smaller size in our area and does not need to be fertilised, but can be fertilised with cactus and succulent fertiliser, for example.
The yellowish-green to yellow flowers appear in winter and spring in a profusely branched inflorescence up to 30 cm high.
Kalanchoe can be used to make colourful mixtures and planted in communal containers. Its red hues make it a rich contrast to other plants. It is suitable for full sun and for summering, when its ruby colour shines through best. It can also be summered on an outdoor windowsill or balcony. Among succulents, this Kalanchoe is a true Edwardes Ruby (one of the world's most important rubies).
