Plant likes sunny habitat, can tolerate partial shade.

Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.

It can tolerate temperatures down to -6.7 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.

Tip for you:

If older plants are not flowering, we can encourage flowering by artificially shortening the day and lowering the temperature to 10-15 °C.

Kalanchoe manginii, also known as Beach Bells or Chandelier plant, is an unpretentious succulent native to Madagascar. The name Bryophyllum manginii may also be encountered.

The glossy green leaves are fleshy, rounded and can reach up to 3 cm long and 1.5 cm wide. In full sun, the leaves turn reddish in colour. Occasionally a slight indentation appears at the top of the leaf. The semi-flexed stems extend up to 40 cm long and can form interesting overhangs.

From winter to early spring, numerous bell-shaped flowers appear at the ends of the thin stems. They turn pinkish-orange to bright red and reach up to 2.5 cm in length. The flowers fold downwards and form the most beautiful element of the plant's appearance. Flowering can be encouraged by overwintering at a cool temperature of around 10-15 °C. If an older plant is not flowering, artificially shortening the day and lowering the temperature can also be tried. This means bringing the plant into the sun for 6 h each day and placing it in cool, dark conditions for the rest of the day. Repeat the process until buds appear. Although this process can take several weeks, I can confirm from my own experience that it bears its fruit - i.e. flowers.

Because of its overhanging growth habit, Kalanchoe manginii is an ideal choice for hanging pots. Here, it hangs beautifully and this unpretentious plant also delights with its colourful flowers.
