Kalanchoe luciae Oricula, also known by the synonym Kalanchoe Oricula, is a cultivar whose original form is native to South Africa and surrounding states. It is a mutation of Kalanchoe luciae discovered by Ron van Leeuwen. The specific epithet "luciae" honors Mademoiselle Lucy Dufour, the famous French botanist and physician Raymond Hamet, who described the species.
The plant is distinguished by its unique rosette-arranged leaves. The leaves are usually grey-green to yellow-green with red margins, but can turn bright red in cold winter temperatures. They grow curled back and grow up to 15 cm in length. The surface of the leaves is heavily leathery, giving the plant a distinctive appearance. The cultivar is a groundcover and grows up to 20 cm tall. The succulent does not normally flower.
Kalanchoe luciae Oricula is a very attractive cultivar, which is characterised by its easy and slow growth. It does not need to be fertilised. It is important to avoid prolonged waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. It is particularly striking with its arching, leathery leaves in interesting bright colours.
