Did you know?

The origin of the plant is a mystery. No one knows exactly how it originated. It is possible that man was behind its creation, but perhaps nature itself in the form of tiny insects.

Huernia Cocklebur is a cross between two species - Huernia pillansii and Huernia penzigii. However, its origin is shrouded in some mystery. It is not known whether it was created by man or only by insects. The name 'Cocklebur' refers to a thistle-like plant.

Fine bristles cover the stems and the plant forms dense, loose clumps. It grows to a small size, rarely exceeding 4 cm in height. It branches profusely, making it grow wide quite quickly.

The real dominant feature here is the impressive reddish-brown flowers. They are long-tipped, slightly bumpy and appear during August or September.

Care must be taken to grow the plant with good drainage as it is prone to waterlogging. It can be lightly fertilised if we see fit. Temperatures between 10 °C and 27 °C are suitable, but it can cope with slightly lower temperatures in the short term. It will especially please miniature enthusiasts and lovers of interesting flowers.
