Hoya australis
The wax plant prefers a semi-shaded habitat.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.
Room temperature is ideal. The plant is not cold hardy.
Spraying is fine for wax plants. Water spraying is not necessary, but if the plant is keen on it, it will be a pleasure.
Hoya australis is often called the Australian wax plant or the common wax plant. It is native to Australia, where it grows to an impressive size of several metres in the wild. In our conditions it also grows quite large, although much smaller.
The younger leaves take on lighter shades of green and darken to a rich dark green over time. The fleshy leaves have a fairly regular oval shape. The plant gives a rather airy impression as the leaves grow quite widely spaced on the stem.
Small star-shaped flowers may bloom during the summer. The colour ranges from white to cream to pinkish shades.
Wax plant grows slowly, semi-slowly and can be grown as an overhanging plant. It likes to be watered and can be fertilized as a houseplant. This unpretentious climber brings a touch of Australian flora to the interior and complements the greenery of the room.
