Did you know?

The rosette of bright, deep green leaves is strikingly reminiscent of rose flowers. This resemblance has given the plant its nickname, the mountain rose.

Greenovia dodrantalis is also known as Mountain Rose. This elegant succulent plant is native to the Canary Islands, where it grows in the local mountains.

The light green leaves grow in dense rosettes. They have an obovate-lobed shape, their ends are conspicuously rounded and they grow to a total length of 3.5 cm and a width of up to 1.5 cm. When young, there are fine hairs on the leaves, which over time are replaced by hairless hairs. The rosettes close strongly during the summer, resembling the light green flower of the rose that gave it its nickname. The rosette itself grows up to 6 cm in diameter, and over time forms shoots on stalks up to 8 cm long.

It flowers mainly during spring in dense clusters of yellow flowers. These grow on stalks up to 5 cm long and brighten the plant's colours. The plant is probably monocarpic, which means that it dies after flowering.

The relatively fast growing plant can be lightly fertilized with a cactus and succulent fertilizer of your choice. The rosette opens and closes depending on soil moisture, making it even more like a rose flower. The mountain rose shows its green rosettes clearly and enriches itself with a delicate veining, forming interesting shapes on the individual leaves.
