Did you know?

Depending on the humidity during the year, the rosette closes and opens. It resembles the unfolding flower of a rose.

Greenovia aurea is also known as Sempervivum aureum, Aeonium aureum or Green Rose Buds. The elegant succulent plant is native to the Canary Islands (Hierro La Gomera, La Palma, Gran Canaria and Tenerife) where it grows at altitudes between 400 - 2 000 m above sea level.

It has attractive light apple green leaves arranged in a tight rosette. The leaves are obovate-lobed, apically rounded and truncate, 5-11 cm long and 3-6 cm wide. The rosette is said to grow to an impressive diameter of up to 25 cm.

It flowers relatively rarely and only once in its lifetime, usually in the summer months. The flowers are yellow and inconspicuous. After flowering, the plant dies, but leaves behind seeds or lateral shoots to ensure its continued spread.

The relatively fast-growing plant can be lightly fertilised with cactus and succulent fertiliser at your discretion. The rosette opens and closes depending on the soil moisture, making it even more like a rose flower. The green rosette from the succulent paradise of the Canary Islands will impress with its shape and expand your succulent collection.
