The plant is called Beautiful Graptopetalum. Its epithet "superbum" means beautiful or magnificent.
Graptopetalum superbum, formerly known as Graptopetalum pentandrum subsp. superbum, is a fascinating succulent plant that has deservedly earned its name. The specific epithet 'superbum' means proud/beautiful/grand and refers to the beauty of the plant, which is characterised by reddish to lavender or grey-brown leaves clustered in rosettes at the end of the stems.
The leaves are thick, fleshy, eventually deciduous and oblong-obovate. The succulent grows with upright to semi-upright stems and grows to a height of 20 cm. It slowly forms lateral rhizomes to form attractive shrubs. The rosettes are dense, almost flat and reach a diameter of up to 12,5 cm. When grown in full sun, the plant usually remains compact and low.
The star-shaped flowers of Graptopetalum grow with greenish-yellow petals with red tips. They appear on upright inflorescences up to 40 cm long in late winter or early spring.
This plant is an attractive and valuable species for succulent growers. It is relatively low maintenance and slow growing, making it ideal for beginners. Its colouring and beautiful flowers make it suitable for a variety of succulent arrangements and collections.
