Euphorbia trigona Rubra
Place the succulent in a sunny or semi-shady location. It is not demanding of light.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.
It can tolerate -1.1 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The epithet 'trigona' refers to the trigonal shape of the plant's body. The three-sided stems are coloured red, hence the name Rubra - red.
Euphorbia trigona Rubra, also known as African Milk Tree, or Good Luck, is a succulent plant also named Euphorbia trigona Royal Red. It is a form of Euphorbia trigona with a tendency to turn shades of red. The epithet "trigona" refers to the trigonal - triangular shape of the three-sided stem.
The triangular stems and leaves turn red to purple, making the succulent unmistakable. The stems may occasionally take on greener shades and bear a whitish crest at their centre. They grow reddish-brown thorns, up to half a centimetre long, arranged in pairs on the edges of the stems. On all three edges, one leaf grows from above between the two spines. The whole plant can eventually reach a height of up to 3 m.
Flowers are not common on this plant.
If the body of the plant is disturbed, a slightly toxic rubber oozes out. It is therefore recommended to keep the plant away from children and pets. In case of skin contact, wash the area with water. If someone's plant dies, it is because they have cared for the plant too much, rather than because it has been neglected. Overwatering is bad for the plant, but fertilizing can be done, but only moderately. The slow-growing Euphorbia trigona Rubra dazzles with its deep red colour, pleases with its triangular shape and completes its look with leaves with decorative spines.
