A semi-shaded location is ideal for the plant.

Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.

It can tolerate temperatures down to -1.1 °C in the short term.

TIP for you:

The Ghost Ghost is very low maintenance, especially in terms of light. Due to the lack of chlorophyll, it could burn from direct sunlight, so grow it in a shaded area.

Euphorbia lactea White Ghost has a white colouring which earned it the name White Ghost. Due to the variegation, the plant partially lacks the chlorophyll needed to grow green stems. The original form of Euphorbia lactea is native to Sri Lanka, but over time it has naturalized around the world where there is sufficient warmth for it.

It produces interesting, swollen and toothed stems. They are usually 3- or 4-angled and up to 5 cm wide, gradually tapering towards the tip. They range in colour from white to light grey to a soft pinkish colour, depending on the intensity of the light. Small white leaves often appear at the end of the branches, but these quickly fall off. The small tree or shrub is further decorated with brown to red spines growing along the ridges of the stems. It can grow up to 3 m tall, but this is not common in our conditions.

White Ghost is very unlikely to flower.

Because of the lack of chlorophyll, we have to watch out for sunburn. It grows solitary and produces a slightly toxic latex when the epidermis is disturbed. If skin contact occurs, wash the site with water; it is not a dangerous species but could cause irritation. There are also cristate forms of this succulent, which already in this form makes an impressive impression, enchants with its whitish colouring and is sure to surprise many a visitor to our homes.
