Ideally placed in a sunny location, but can tolerate partial shade.

Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.

It can tolerate -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.

TIP for you:

The colourful thorns are the best on the plant. These brighten up the plant's body, as the inconspicuous leaves fall off very quickly.

Euphorbia enopla, also known as Pincushion Euphorbia, is a succulent plant native to South Africa.

It is characterised by a columnar body up to 3 cm in diameter, which is ribbed and varies in colour from green, grey-green to blue-green. An interesting feature of this plant is the variously coloured thorn-like formations that decorate its surface. These formations are formed by the transformation of other organs, in this case the flower stems. At first they are soft and with time they harden and change colour. They branch profusely in various parts of the columnar bodies and over time form large clumps. The leaves are very small and only remain on the plant for a short time before falling off.

The flowers of this plant are inconspicuous, the male flowers being yellow and the female flowers supposedly dark red.

Euphorbia enopla resembles a cactus and, like other members of the genus Euphorbia, produces a whitish latex. Care must therefore be taken when handling the plant to avoid getting the liquid into the eyes. After contact with the skin, wash the affected area with water. In winter, it does not like temperatures to drop consistently below 12 °C. It is a good-growing cactus-like succulent that is particularly attractive with its colourful, ornamental spines.
