Did you know?

Bittersweet was selected from a group of Echeveria gibbiflora hybrids in the second half of the 20th century.

Echeveria gibbiflora Bittersweet was selected as a succulent hybrid of Echeveria gibbiflora and named in the 1970s. The original form is native to Mexico and Guatemala. In southern Australia it is sometimes sold under the name Echeveria Ginger.

Narrow and fleshy at the base, the leaves broaden towards the tip and have more wavy edges. The colour of the bladed leaves is usually around pale mahogany, often with striking white lines on the edges. The entire rosette can reach up to 40 cm in diameter and consists of up to 20 individual leaves.

In autumn, bell-shaped flowers appear in shades of red and yellow. The flowers grow arranged on long stems up to 80 cm long.

The succulent can be lightly fertilised and its growth will be helped if it is transplanted into a larger pot in spring. Attractive Echeveria gibbiflora Bittersweet has wavy, reddish leaf margins and its sturdy rosettes are easy to miss.
