The plant likes a sunny habitat.

Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.

It can tolerate temperatures down to -6.7 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.

Did you know?

The species itself is very variable and has several forms. There are only small differences between them, for example in the shape and size of the leaves or the colour of the flowers.

Echeveria elegans, also known as Mexican Snowball or Hens and Chicks, is a popular succulent native to the semi-desert regions of Mexico. The nickname 'elegans' aptly describes its elegant appearance. The species itself is variable and the forms are distinguished by subtle differences in size, leaf shape or flower colour.

The thick and fleshy spoon-shaped leaves can grow up to 6 cm long and 2 cm wide. In sufficient light they take on a beautiful pink hue, otherwise they turn blue-green. The succulent is quite prolific and eventually produces dense clumps of new rosettes.

In spring and summer the rosettes grow into slender pinkish stems up to 30 cm long. Showy, bell-shaped flowers appear at the ends. They are pinkish-red in colour and have yellow tips.

The unpretentious Echeveria elegans is a classic Echeveria with a rosette of blue-green leaves. As the name suggests, its elegant appearance draws the eyes of passers-by to it, and its unpretentiousness means that I can recommend it to novice growers.
