Echeveria compressicaulis, is a succulent plant native to Venezuela. It gets its name from its irregularly shaped stems compressus - compressed, caulis - stem. It is found only in one locality, 2 km before El Morro on the dirt road from Mérida. It grows on rocky slopes at about 2 075 m above sea level on stony soil among sparse scrub, in the rain shadow of the Pico Bolívar.
It is characterised by its dark brownish-green to purplish-green leaves with an irregularly shaped upper surface showing the impressions of younger leaves. The leaves are elliptic-ovate in shape and grow up to 5 cm long and 1,8 cm wide. The stems of the plant are irregularly compressed and kinked with elongated rhombic flattened parts around each leaf scar. It produces abundant offsets and grows up to 20 cm tall.
The flowers tend to be orange-yellow with lighter petal edges and appear on up to 20 cm tall racemose inflorescences.
It is not advisable to fertilise. The plant changes colour during the year so you have something to look forward to all year round. This interestingly coloured succulent will catch your eye and complement its appearance with its interesting leaf and stem shapes.
