Echeveria Benitsukasa
The plant likes a sunny habitat.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.
It can tolerate -1.1 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
This is a Japanese cultivar of Echeveria nodulosa. It is known professionally as Echeveria nodulosa Maruba Benitsukasa.
Echeveria Benitsukasa, also known by its technical name Echeveria nodulosa Maruba Benitsukasa, reveals a unique Japanese cultivar. The name itself is a combination of four Japanese characters: 'maru' - round, 'ba' - leaf, 'beni' - red and 'tsukasa' - valuable.
The leaves have a dull apple green colour, which is complemented by distinctive purplish red margins and often striking markings across the leaves. In direct sunlight, the colouring becomes more pronounced and deepens to a purplish red over the entire leaf surface. However, their colour is also influenced by the season or growing conditions. Small protrusions often appear on the leaf surface. Compact rosettes usually grow to a diameter of about 8 cm. They are smaller and denser than the original Echeveria nodulosa.
The pinkish-red flowers with yellowish petal tips grow from spring to summer on tall bell-shaped stems. They can be 30 cm long and do not branch.
A sunny location is ideal for the plant, and in an apartment the south windows are ideal, where its leaves are most beautifully coloured and stunning in their pattern. Do not fertilise the plant, as excess nutrients would harm it. Echeveria Benitsukasa is a prized plant that will appeal to any succulent enthusiast. Its unique colour, compact rosettes and beautiful flowers make it a real gem in any collection.
