Did you know?

The underside of the leaf has a spine which, like the edges of the leaves, turns red and forms a typical leaf pattern.

Echeveria ballsii is a succulent plant first described in 1958 by E. Walther in Cactus and Succulent Journal US. The origin of the plant remains unknown and the name is hotly contested. The name ballsii should not be used for plants found in Colombia or other South American countries. The plant has green to yellow leaves with red hints on the edges and a hint of a keel on the underside. The leaves grow to 3.5 cm long and about 1 cm wide, tapering to less than 5 mm at the base. A sparse rosette of thickened, pointed leaves forms at the top of the initially very low stem. The stem is thin, finely branched and the plant also forms lateral offshoots.

In the flowering season, orange-pink flowers arranged in fairly regular spacing on tall stems bloom.

It does not like to be fertilised. It grows rather small. This relatively hardy succulent can survive less favourable conditions or beginners' mistakes. Echeveria ballsii delights with its colour combination of green and red, forming attractive patterns on the leaves.
