It can tolerate -1.1 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.

Did you know?

The crested form is unlikely to flower. The classic one has yellow flowers.

Echeveria apus cristata captivates growers with its unique appearance. This succulent plant boasts ridge-like leaf growth. This gives Echeveria apus cristata an unmistakable character compared to the typical form. The origin of this plant is not known with certainty, but it most likely comes from Mexico.

The leaves of Echeveria apus cristata are blue-green with distinctive reddish edges and tips. The leaves are fleshy, spherical, lance-shaped, small and slightly pointed at the apex. The lower leaves dry naturally and contrast with the lush upper part of the plant. The stem is flat and leathery, with a typical ridge-like arrangement that may continue to grow and branch over time. It grows to a height of about 15 cm.

The crested form of Echeveria apus probably does not flower. If you desire the yellow flowers typical of Echeveria apus, you will need to grow the classic non-cristate form.

If you want to move the plant outdoors in spring, do it gradually so that it gets used to the more intense sunlight. From spring to autumn, water using the 'soak and dry' method, i.e. let the substrate dry out between waterings. Make sure the pot is not standing in water. The plant grows slowly and is not fertilised. The colour of the leaves changes during the year. Depending on the season and light conditions, it can vary from a deep blue-green to a dark green with red tones. This changing beauty adds another dimension to the plant and makes it an even more interesting succulent. It is a unique piece that will stand out in succulent gardens.
