Echeveria amoena cristata
Place ideally in a sunny position.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter. Water less rather than more.
The plant can tolerate -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
This Echeveria is characterised by its dense spikes and interesting flat stem.
Echeveria amoena cristata, represents the crested form of Echeveria amoena. The classic form is native to Mexico, specifically the states of Morelos, Puebla and Veracruz.
This Echeveria, with grey-green leaves that turn pink or reddish in the sun, has leathery and very densely ruffled leaves. The leaves are thick, fleshy and pointed, growing up to 2 cm long and 0.8 cm wide. The plant grows many of them. Old leaves dry naturally to reveal a bare bluish cotyledon. The flat cloves grow up to 20 cm tall.
The crested form of Echeveria amoena is unlikely to flower.
However, it does offer a charming display of arching leaves that is a real gem for succulent collections. In addition, it impresses with subtle changes in leaf colour when exposed to direct sunlight.
