Echeveria agavoides Romeo
The plant likes a sunny habitat.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Water only minimally in winter.
The plant can tolerate -3.9 °C in the short term.
The bright leaves are complemented by the red spines. The succulent lasts for a long time without watering thanks to these strongly fleshy leaves, which can hold a lot of water. This makes it suitable for avid travellers who only water their plants very sporadically.
Echeveria agavoides Romeo is a unique and quite valuable mutation of the original Echeveria agavoides species, which grows naturally in rocky areas of Mexico. Romeo comes from the G Köhres nursery in Germany and is also known as Echeveria agavoides Red Ebony and Echeveria agavoides Taurus. However, the romantic name Romeo is officially considered the most correct one. The epithet agavoides refers to the similarity with the genus Agave.
Romeo impresses with its grey-purple leaves, with distinctive red margins. At the end of each leaf is a terminal red spine. The leaves tend to be heavily fleshy and covered with a waxy coating. The succulent forms compact rosettes that can grow up to 15 cm in height and 30 cm in diameter. In our conditions, however, they are slightly smaller in stature.
The bell-shaped flowers are red with yellow tips. They appear in spring or early summer and tend to be slightly smaller than those of other Echeveria agavoides cultivars.
This slow-growing succulent does not need much fertiliser. The plant can also survive for long periods without water, making it an ideal option for those who often travel away from home. With its romantic name and colourful spines, Echeveria agavoides Romeo will shine among the other succulents in your collection.
