Crassula tetragona
This plant loves a sunny habitat.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter. During spring, the plant can tolerate very frequent watering.
It can tolerate -1 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The habit of the plant resembles a small tree. It is easy to shape and its elongated, narrow leaves resemble the needles of a pine tree.
Crassula tetragona, also known as Miniature Pine Tree. It is a succulent plant that occurs naturally on gravel slopes from the Gifberg to Uniondale in several locations near Springbok and Kamiesberg in South Africa. This plant is characterised by its stiff, elongated, pointed leaves which maintain a deep green colour. It is these leaves, which resemble the needles of a pine tree, that give it its nickname.
The sturdy stem of Crassula tetragona, covered in brown bark, forms a small shrub with a tree-like habit. In nature, it can grow up to 1 metre high. The plant also rhizomes and branches, providing opportunities for interesting shapes.
Although its white flowers are rare, the plant has a very attractive appearance. This is mainly due to its atypical needle-like leaf shape. The lower leaves fall off naturally, forming a new woody stem. This succulent plant is ideal for shaping and can be used to create small woodland succulent landscapes. I would recommend it to inexperienced growers for its easy care. With its shaping ability, it will delight even the experienced succulent lover.
