Crassula swaziensis
Ideally placed in a sunny location, can tolerate partial shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.
The succulent can withstand short periods of -3.9 °C. However, the plant is not hardy.
The succulent is also called Crassula Money Maker. According to legend, this plant brings good fortune and prosperity to the house where it is grown.
Crassula swaziensis, also known as Crassula Money Maker, is a money-making fathead minnow native to southern Africa. Here it is found mainly in rock crevices, often in sunny places, from northern Zimbabwe through the highlands of the Transvaal, eastern Swaziland and northern Natal or in Malawi. The species itself is quite variable in appearance.
The succulent is characterised by green, grey-green to grey-brown leaves covered with fine hairs. They are obovate, slightly convex in shape and reach a length of up to 5 cm. The leaf margins are decorated with tiny cilia. The short stems are slightly woody and can grow both upright and semi-upright to a length of up to 25 cm.
The flowers are white to cream, but often take on a pink tinge in bud. They appear in dense clusters in spring on slender stems that can reach up to 12.5 cm in length.
Crassula swaziensis is very easy to grow. Thanks to its hardiness, decorative qualities and rapid growth, I confidently recommend it to all novice growers. For enthusiasts of whiter shades of colour I can point out the similar form Crassula swaziensis variegata, which can also be found in our e-shop. This decorative plant, apart from the proverbial luck of the money, will bring a little bit of the green freshness of the succulent world into your home.
