Crassula sarmentosa variegata
Ideally placed in a sunny location, can tolerate partial shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
It can tolerate -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
The succulent grows upright and later lies down (approximately when it reaches 30 cm in height). If you want to achieve upright growth, you can shape the plant by cutting it back.
Crassula sarmentosa variegata, also known as Crassula sarmentosa Comet, is commonly called Variegated Trailing Jade Plant. It is a cultivar of Crassula sarmentosa that is characterised by its variegated foliage. The original green form is native to South Africa.
The mid-green leaves have a cream to yellow patterning around the edges and fine teeth cover the margins. The bright green blends with a red line at the very edge in the sun. The leaves are lance-shaped to elliptical. The stems turn shades of red and the succulent grows quickly and eventually branches from the top. It grows upright until about 30 cm tall, when it begins to lie flat. In this way, the stems can reach a length of up to 90 cm.
The rosebuds grow in rounded terminal panicles. In mid-winter, the buds open to produce pale pink to white flowers.
The rapid growth can be slowed down by cutting back. Due to the plant's semi-flexible habit, it can also be grown as an overhanging plant. It is an undemanding plant and is suitable for lazy gardeners.
