TIP for you:

Thanks to its beautiful buds and fragrant flowers, the plant is very popular with our customers. In addition, it is easy to form bonsai and the roots naturally form interesting braids.

Crassula sarcocaulis, nicknamed Bonsai Jade Plant, is a succulent plant native to eastern South Africa and neighbouring countries. There it grows on mountain slopes in rocky terrain. The epithet "sarcocaulis" refers to the fleshy stems of the plant (sarco - fleshy, caulis - stem). The upper stems are covered with green leaves about 1 cm long and 2-3 mm wide.

The stem and thin branches soon become woody and are covered with a peeling brown bark. The plant naturally branches profusely and also produces tough and thickened roots that often intertwine in incredible tangles. It grows up to 60 cm tall and wide, but this process takes many years.

In June, flower buds appear at the top of the branches. A month later, the burgundy-red buds open into tiny flowers of a soft pinkish colour. The plant is at its most beautiful just before the flowers open, when it is enveloped in the full glory of the buds. The flowers have a pleasant sweet fruity scent. It is advisable to remove the dried inflorescences after flowering.

Its appearance and growth has earned it the nickname Bonsai Crassula, as it resembles a smaller version of a real tree and forms beautifully into a succulent bonsai. It can be easily shaped by cutting and its roots naturally thicken and intertwine. Even without the intervention of a grower, this plant usually produces beautiful trees. Its beauty and easy cultivation make it one of the most popular succulents with our customers.
