Did you know?

As its name suggests, it has a pyramid-like growth habit. The plant has a 4-angled shape and its geometric, densely curled leaves resemble the steps of a pyramid.

Crassula pyramidalis compacta, also known as Pagoda Mini Jade, is a compact form of the succulent plant Crassula pyramidalis, which is native to South Africa. The epithet "pyramidalis" refers to the irregularly pyramidal shape of the plant's 4-angled stems. It is a variable species, with a compact form of growth - 'compacta', it is one of the most popular variants. The plant occurs naturally on gravel surfaces and gentle slopes in the area from Swartruggens and Matjiesfontein to the Eastern Cape. It often grows in shallow soil.

The succulent has green to grey-green or brownish-green leaves that grow very densely clumped and the older leaves of the plant often dry out. They grow arranged on upright stems that are typically four-sided. The miniature plant grows to a maximum height of 5 cm.

It flowers in spring and bears white flowers that lack the traditional stamens and grow directly from the leaf rosettes. This plant is monocarpic, meaning that the stems die back after flowering. However, new offsets appear at the base of the plant to replace it.

Crassula pyramidalis compacta grows very slowly and stagnates in summer. It does not require fertilisation, which is not very suitable for it. The unusual pyramidal shape of the leaves has made the plant popular with many growers. Its miniature growth means it can fit anywhere and is a delight in all seasons.
