TIP for you:

This is a typical representative that shows atypical leaf folding. The quadrangular columns of densely successive leaves make a beautiful spectacle and the plant is one of the basic specimens for establishing a succulent collection.

Crassula pyramidalis, also known as Mini Jade Pagoda, and Pyramidal Jade Pagoda, is native to South Africa where it is found on gravelly areas and gentle slopes. The specific epithet "pyramidalis" refers to the pyramid-like shape of the 4-angled columns that the plant forms. It is a variable species with a rich variety of forms and cultivars.

Leaves are green, grey-green or brown-green, growing very densely packed together on upright to semi-erect stems. It grows slowly and forms 4-angled columns that branch out with age to resemble miniature trees. The plant is characterised by spontaneous branching, with the sides of the stem opening up to make way for new branches. Height usually reaches up to 25 cm.

The flowers are small and white or cream in colour and appear in dense terminal rounded racemes. Only older plants are usually able to flower. This plant is monocarpic, which means that the stems die back after flowering. However, new shoots emerge at the base of the plant and so the life cycle repeats.

When choosing a container, it is important to choose a size that matches the growth of the plant. It is always better to choose a container slightly smaller than the actual size of the plant. The succulent grows quite slowly, but do not fertilise it. Crassula pyramidalis is a charming succulent plant that will win you over with its compact shape, unpretentious nature and miniature beauty. The stacked leaves in quadrangular columns create a captivating spectacle and the branching enhances the impression.
