This is a similar cultivar of Crassula Tom Thumb, which was grown in Japan.
Crassula Pastel, also called Crassula Tom Thumb Variegata or Variegated Tom Thumb, is a Japanese cultivar of Crassula Tom Thumb. The classic Tom Thumb is the result of a cross between Crassula rupestris subsp. rupestris and Crassula rupestris subsp. marnieriana.
The leaves of Crassula Pastel are small, triangular, arranged in opposite rows on erect, spreading or semi-erect stems. The variegated leaves are up to 5 mm long and have colourful reddish margins, especially when growing in bright light.
Flowers are unlikely to appear on variegated forms.
This succulent is slightly more difficult to grow. One of the main problems is leaf drying in the older parts, but this can be alleviated by summering. In winter, careful watering is necessary to avoid waterlogging. In spring, it is important to protect the plant from the first strong sun, which can burn the leaves. Crassula Pastel is an interesting and not very common form that will delight any succulent grower.
