Ideally placed in a sunny spot, can tolerate partial shade.

Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.

It can tolerate temperatures down to -1.1 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.

Did you know?

The plant is nicknamed Shrek's Ears, after the green ogre Shrek from the famous cartoon. Its ears are almost identical in shape and colour to the leaves of this fat plant.

Crassula ovata Gollum, is a monstrous form of the classic Crassula ovata. It is one of the cultivars forming the so-called Tolkien Group, named after characters in Tolkien's stories. It is also sometimes referred to as Crassula ovata Gllum. It is from this character that the plant was named.

Its leaves have expanded ends and a curved middle part of the leaf tip. When exposed to sufficient sunlight, rings of shallow depressions appear around the perimeter, which take on various shades of red. In the absence of light or too rich a substrate, the leaves remain dark green. They grow close together and may have different shapes. The old leaves die back naturally and the plant has a tree-like growth, reaching a height of up to 50 cm. The stem of the plant gets thicker and more robust with time.

The succulent can produce white or pink star-shaped flowers.

Crassula ovata Gollum is suitable for shaping, and the colour of its leaves varies depending on the season and growing conditions. It is an undemanding succulent and can be lightly fertilised. I would also recommend this plant to beginners because of its hardiness or the possibility of beautiful shaping. It will enhance the look of the indoor and succulent garden.
