Place ideally in a sunny position. It can withstand partial shade.

Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering.

It can tolerate temperatures down to -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.

TIP for you:

Crassula forms dense clumps by means of lateral shoots. The light green plants brighten up during the year with a play of pink and purple.

Crassula orbicularis var. rosularis is native to the Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, where it grows in shady thickets. It gets its name from the Latin word orbicularis , which refers to the shape of the leaves of the original variant.

The flat green leaves have a purple tinge on the underside. Cilia appear on the edges and the soft leaves are topped with a sharp point. In early summer, a pink tinge appears on the surface of the leaves. In the shade the leaves remain deep green. When exposed to full sun or cooler temperatures, the whole plant may turn purple. It forms clusters of rosettes that can reach up to 10 centimetres across. The plant gradually grows and forms side branches.

It produces white flowers that grow in terminal, upright inflorescences up to 20 cm high.

A relatively low maintenance plant, it does not require fertiliser. It impresses with its unusual colouring and its variation in shades of pink and purple. It is mainly grown for its dense clumps, which are formed by lateral offsets.
